BRANDING & ILLUSTRATION

Syrano

Syrano is a growing start-up that combines human expertise with generative AI to streamline content creation for brands. I was tasked with creating a brand pattern in addition to a series of illustrations for the website’s on-boarding process.

The brand story of Syrano is based on the play, Cyrano, about Cyrano de Bergerac. De Bergerac is a man with a big nose who thinks he is not attractive enough to win the love of Roxane. He writes letters that his handsome friend, Christian, signs his name to, and helps Christian win Roxane’s love. Just as Cyrano helps Christian attract Roxane, Syrano helps brands captivate their audience by creating engaging content that maintains their unique voice and identity

Storyline Illustrations

The series of illustrations follow the play’s storyline as it connects to Syrano. Each of the five scene had a corresponding quote and general visual outline. All of the illustrations are single line drawings. I chose this style because line drawings leave elements open to interpretation. I felt it helped bridge the gap to the original 1897 play, as well as matching the style and simplicity of the logo.

Let’s use the scene four (fourth slide) as case study. The brief I was working from was as follows: Scene 4: How Christian Attracted Roxane. Setting: Roxane's balcony at night. Characters: Cyrano (hidden), Christian, Roxane. Action: Cyrano speaks for Christian from the shadows, weaving words of love and poetry to Roxane above. Visual Description: Christian stands below Roxane’s balcony, with Cyrano hidden in the shadows, whispering to Christian.

Quote (Cyrano): "So be it then! I'll write.—This letter fraught With love, I've thought it out a hundred times; It's ready, and, to close it, I have but To read my soul, and copy what I read."

Brand Pattern

The brand pattern incorporates a lot of different key parts of the logo, of Cyrano’s face, and of Syrano’s function. The nose and mustache are key features on Cyrano’s face, and the pen and message bubble represent the program’s purpose and role. Yellow is the brand’s primary color so pulling the circle from the logo helps tie the brand visuals together.
